ALYSHA COLANGELI
Alysha Colangeli is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores the concepts of individual and collective identities, while cultivating connections to place, memory, and the beauty found in everyday life. Inspired by her decade in the high desert, Alysha's artistic practice encompasses weaving, natural dyeing, and pigment making, though she was trained as a fine artist in drawing, painting, and printmaking at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
Alysha's work explores the interwoven tapestry of cultures and the profound significance of handmade processes. Nurtured within a family that valued homemade traditions, she developed a deep reverence for crafting her own mediums from scratch. She aims to illuminate the intricate and contemplative aspects of craft, particularly weaving and dyeing, and calls to shift away from a culture of mindless consumption. As a first-generation American inspired by her ancestral lineage of Italian weavers and dyers, her work explores the transmission of skills and knowledge across generations, recognizing the wisdom and resilience embedded in handmade traditions.
Alysha Colangeli's work has been shown in the United States and Canada, and her works can currently be viewed in Santa Fe, New Mexico. As her practice continues to evolve, she explores new mediums, techniques, and ways of engaging with the world around her, constantly pushing the boundaries of her artistic expression.
