RACHEL DIXON

Specializing in dried floral design, Rachel Dixon transforms the fleeting beauty of each growing season into lasting, evocative arrangements. She is a Santa Fe based organic farmer and the pieces she creates are based entirely of materials from her land. She grows, harvests and dries everything by hand, ensuring a process that is not only deeply personal but entirely sustainable. Aside from small amounts of wire to stabilize, her work is free from plastics, foam or other synthetic materials.
Having been mentored by and collaborated with other farmers for almost 20 years, growing is her primary art and the pieces she creates of dried materials are a reflection of a season’s particular conditions. By weaving together the disciplines of farming and floral artistry, Rachel invites viewers to experience the land not just as a source of sustenance, but as a canvas and collaborator in the creative process.
She is originally from New Mexico and currently farms in La Cienega with her husband and family. Together they grow vegetables and flowers for farmer’s markets, select local restaurants and have a flourishing vineyard.
EXHIBITIONS AT FOLKLORE
-
A story about life's cycles. Working underground in the quiet dark, seedlings emerge. Ephemeral blooms from earth's eternal well of creation. A tender moment of beauty passing like clouds on the horizon. Scattering seeds in the wind, then laying to rest. Sowing potentials without promise before returning to the land that birthed them. Only to start again, over and over. Flowering in patient hands and good soil. Or despite it all. Cropping up in unexpected places, persistent and wild. Rising from stillness, reaching for the light.
